AVANI Seychelles hosts first airline festival |27 February 2017

AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa hosted its first airline festival on Saturday evening at the hotel’s premises.

Representative of the different airlines serving the Seychelles route were present.

The aim of such a festival is to get as many people as the hotel can from the airline industry at the same venue given their busy schedule.

It is to create awareness and promote Seychelles to honeymooners as well as other tourists.

Keven Valentin and his group ‘Sokwe’ were on hand to entertain the gathering with local songs and dances especially the moutya.

There were also a variety of Creole dishes available like Creole salads, kari sousouri, kari zourit, breadfruit in all its forms of preparation like pudding, ‘ladob’, ‘griye’ etc.. Creole sweets like nougat, banana fritters, just to name some, were also on sale.

The evening also coincided with the monthly Bazar Kreol which has become a favourite among both locals and visitors.

“The idea (for the festival) came because we are organising a lot of parties. And now with the growing number of airlines arriving here, we saw it would be a good thing. We organised parties on the beach for all the tours coming over to attract crew from any airline around the world. The idea is to try to see if we could host such event on a regular basis,” said Stephan Vilar, general manager of AVANI Seychelles. The event is planned to take place annually in February.

Franky Hetimier, who chairs the Airlines Operators Committee and also representing Sri Lankan Airlines at the event, said they have come together to support the event, adding it is an initiative of the AVANI Seychelles to bring in more tourists to Seychelles.

“It is also to promote unity between airlines. The main activity for us is to bring our support to Bazar Barbarons organised by the hotel and also to tourism in general,” said Mr Hetimier.
