Cardinal Maurice Piat pays courtesy call on vice-president |28 February 2017

Vice-President Vincent Meriton yesterday received Cardinal Maurice Piat at State House.

Cardinal Piat was accompanied by the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Port Victoria, Mgr Denis Wiehe.

Speaking to the media after the reunion, Cardinal Piat stated that the discussion with VP Meriton was about working closer with the church on important subjects such as drugs, family and having a good society with good values.

“We talked about the importance of having a good relationship between the government and the church, also the importance of family in the society. He has a vision to promote good values, which we sometimes forget. In Mauritius we are also working very hard to promote our good values,” he said.

Before meeting VP Meriton, Cardinal Piat met a delegation of pastors comprising Bishop French Chang Him, Bishop James Wong, Deacon Danny Elizabeth and Mgr Denis Wiehe.

“When I met the Anglican delegation, we discussed about drugs and family problems and the reality of life, that both countries can work together and have a better collaboration.  We must all work together to promote peace and good values around the world,” he said.

Yesterday morning Cardinal Piat hosted a public conference at the Bishop House. Cardinal Piat leaves Seychelles today.
