Cardinal Piat amazed by Seychelles’ beauty |01 March 2017

Cardinal Maurice Piat left Seychelles yesterday “amazed” by the beauty of the islands.

During his five-day visit here, the Cardinal got the opportunity to visit our islands, such as Praslin and La Digue.

It was not the first time that Cardinal Piat visits Seychelles. Way before he became Cardinal, he visited our islands for work proposes.

This time he said he really experienced the true Seychellois culture.

He got the opportunity to interact with many local people and he also met President Danny Faure to discuss about important subjects such as family and drugs.

Alongside Cardinal Piat was the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Port Victoria, Mgr Denis Wiehe.

“On Saturday Cardinal Piat got the opportunity to visit Praslin and La Digue, also we were able to interact with our local people. 

It was the first time he experiences the uniqueness of Seychelles and the Seychellois culture,” Bishop Wiehe said.

He added that the favourite activity of Cardinal Piat is swimming.

“Cardinal Piat really enjoys swimming, so on Sunday we went to Port Launay, were he got the opportunity to swim and relax on our beautiful beaches,” he said.

During his visit, Cardinal Piat took part in many activities to mark the 150th  anniversary of the diocese. On Sunday he celebrated mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and when he was on Praslin he also said mass at the St Joseph’s Church at Grand Anse.
