AMSA Renal Care Seychelles commemorates WKD |13 March 2017

‘Healthy lifestyle for healthy kidneys’ was the theme of a march organised by AMSA Renal Care Seychelles in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to commemorate World Kidney Day celebrated on March 9.

The march took place on Saturday.

WKD is a global awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidney.

Present for the march was the Minister for Health and Social Affairs Jean-Paul Adam, the Health Care Agency (HCA) deputy chief executive Dr Danny Louange, and AMSA Renal Care staff.

The medical director & consultant nephrologists Dr Mahesh Kumar KB from AMSA Renal Care Seychelles stated that to mark WKD they wanted to promote education about the importance of our kidney and kidney disease, advocating healthy lifestyle.

“This march was to spread the message about a healthy lifestyle. It is important that we take care of our kidney, and have a much healthier lifestyle. Kidney disease is more likely to develop in obese people including in those with diabetes and hypertension,” he said.

On Saturday evening a team from AMSA Renal Care Seychelles went to the home for the elderly at La Retraite to do some screening on the twenty elderly residents there.

The elderly got the opportunity to do urine examination, test their blood pressure and see the condition of their kidneys.

Such screening will enable the elderly to be aware of their kidney condition and prevent it from worsening.
