Twenty potential candidates who are showing interest in applying for the Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management (ADHM) course based at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA), were hosted to an open day earlier this week.

The event held at the institution was to allow the candidates to have a look around and learn about the ADHM courses, familiarise them with facilities, modules among many others.

This activity will also help to enlighten the candidates on any doubt they may have with regards to the course and finally to be motivated to join.

Arriving at the STA they were greeted at the gate by first year students, and were directed to the ADHM classroom where they followed a presentation conducted by the year three students.

They also had the opportunity to see how the classes are run for the day, both theory and practical. The practical was based on the culinary whereby ADHM students demonstrated the kitchen and restaurant services.

The director of the ADHM course Diana Quatre stated that it is the first time that STA hosts such open day for the ADHM course.

“The reason behind such open day is because we are recruiting new students for the ADHM course, so what better way to invite the potential candidates to familiarise themselves with the modules, facilities, and interact with the students on the course,” she said.

Eric D’Souza from International School and potential candidate for the course pointed out that he is still considering his option.

“Since the tourism is the number one pillar of our economy, I wanted to come and learn more about the course, and interact with the current students to enhance my knowledge,” he said.

A first year ADHM student Tracy Perrine from the School of Advanced Level Studies added that at the beginning of the course it was really hard to adapt.

“Since I was young I was interested in the tourism industry. I decided to join the course because it is a way to develop my skills in many ways. We have the opportunity to learn more in each department that is related to a hotel. You need to be committed, study hard and be passionate about the course in order to complete it,” she said.

STA is still waiting for other candidates to apply for the course.
