Service dedicated to celebrating women |18 March 2017

A service dedicated to celebrating women is being led by the Born To Inspire Group (BIG) today starting at 6pm at the Anse Etoile branch of Pentecostal Assemblies of Seychelles.

The event in itself is part of an even greater plan of BIG for this year which focuses on the family.

It started off last month and for the first two months they are focusing on women, then the following two months on men and finally on children.

After that, the first six months of the programme will be evaluated as a whole to see how to tackle the remaining months of the year.

Their vision is to inspire others and to inspire each individual in the family who will then mirror the same thing to the people outside of their home. Eventually, the world will be a better place.

The leader of the Anse Etoile branch, Pastor Yves Aglae, said the church contributes to the empowerment of women in various ways, namely by providing them with the opportunity to take part in every aspect of the church life - by expressing their views on any topics freely, talks, group activities, community and through other special programmes geared towards women.

“Through other various activities, they are made aware that they also have gifts and are full of great potentials that simply need to be harnessed and developed so they can inspire at least one soul, that is actually close to them,” he said.

They also learned different life skills so they will be able to discharge their various roles at any given time, be it as a student, wife, daughter and even as a member of the community.

“We assist them in addressing and resolving different challenges that may be peculiar to women as we believe that the church should be the primary place (alongside the home) where they are equipped for life's challenges,” he said.

Pastor Yves said this service can bring significant change among women.

“Though it may begin as a small seed, it has great potential for growth. We are using different ways to try and convey the message across to everyone, through the use of videos, mimes, dancing, testimonies of real life experiences and engaging discussions,” he said.

He said it is also a way of putting women in the limelight and showing them their true worth - not as men or how other women and even the way they see themselves but in rather in a much better way - which is how God sees them.

“Women usually go through different challenges in life as men do but sometimes they seem to be lacking a strong voice so they can be heard and taken seriously for who they are in the society and not just an emotional being,” he said.

The Pastor encourages the participation of both men and women though the focus will be on a specific group.

“This is important because as the scripture says: ‘You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free’. Both groups have heard a lot of sayings about women and some of them may even have their own perceptions and experience. Hence, once they both receive the proper knowledge coupled with the right attitude during the application phase, the family will no longer walk in darkness and causing harm to each other but will instead walk and live in a loving environment, conducive for growth for every member,” he said.
