The Civil Construction Company Limited (CCCL) at Petit Paris has announced a 10% reduction in the cost of some construction materials with effect from April 1, 2017.

The company’s general manager Dina Gappy broke the news yesterday during a visit undertaken by the Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport Charles Bastienne at the construction firm.

The aim of the visit was for the minister to familiarise himself with the activities of the company, as it plays a crucial role in the construction industry in Seychelles.

Also present during the visit were the managing director of the company Sunny Kan, the chief executive of the Seychelles Land Transport Authority (SLTA) Parinda Herath and the principal secretary for infrastructure Yves Choppy.

Ms Gappy said the reduction in prices will be on such items as crusher dust and quarry materials.

“With the help of the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport we were able to review our prices on crusher and quarry materials.  The reason behind such reduction is due to the fact that CCCL has made a couple of changes in the company. We have also cut down on our expenses,” she said, adding that people on Praslin will also benefit from the reduction.

Minister Bastienne welcomed such initiative by CCCL to reduce its prices on construction materials.

“The main purpose of my visit is to show my appreciation and thank CCCL for the role it is playing in the community. Also it gives me an opportunity to assess the situation of construction materials in our country, to see if we have significant stock for the entire population. Soon the government will be embarking on an ambitious housing programme and we will need all the construction materials we can have,” he said.

The items whose prices will be reduced are red earth from R132 to R123 a ton, muck belt from R177 to R160 a tonne, quarry waste from R136 to R123 a tonne, crusher waste from R243 to 219 a tonne, walling rocks from R252 to R227 a tonne, among others.

Minister Bastienne will be visiting the United Concrete Products of Seychelles (UCPS) to also discuss the possibility of the company bringing down the prices of construction materials.
