Artist profile - Fastidious: “If better is possible then good is not enough” |23 March 2017

Every week the Entertainment page will try to bring you a short profile on a Seychellois artist, be it in the performing, visual or other forms of arts.

In our eleventh profile, readers will learn more about the talented singer, Roger Volcère, aka Fastidious.

Fastidious recently released his first album entitled ‘Virgil’ with 15 amazing tracks.

Q: When did you start your career as a singer?

A:  I started writing at the age of 13 but I was 15 when I recorded my first verse with my crew at that time “CPA Chronix”.

Q: Will you consider yourself a singer or entertainer?

A:  I don’t see myself as an entertainer rather someone trying to bring forth a message.

Q:  What’s your motto in life?

A:  If better is possible then good is not enough.

Q: How would you describe your music in five words?

A: Lyrical, deep, different, positive, spiritual.

Q:  Do you write your own lyrics and music? Where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favourite part about the process?

A: I write all of my music. My inspiration comes from what I see and hear mixed with what I experience daily. I normally record what comes in mind on my phone and later put them together. I think that ‘puzzle’ part where I put the pieces together is what I enjoy most.

Q: How do you unwind when you aren’t writing/producing/playing etc?

A: I work on my video productions. I also enjoy reading.

Q:. Who were your first musical influences that you can remember?

A: I think it was Michael Jackson, but I remember the feeling I had watching the local bands that used to perform on the TV show ‘Bamboo night club’ and the music videos back then.

Q: Studio work or performing live, which of these do you prefer and why?

A: Studio work. Since I produce and record my own music, I have the freedom of expressing myself.

Q: Which ingredient do you think makes you special and unique as a performing artist?

A: I believe that I have the ability to feel. I can listen to a song and feel what’s missing or what mood it should be in.

Q: If you were forced to choose only one, which emotion would you say drives you to stay in this tough business. Is it joy, anger, desire, passion, or pride and why?

A: Passion. Because I believe I have something to say and my art form allows me to.

Q: Which local singer have you always wanted to perform with?

A: Benting is someone I always wanted to work with and that dream came true. But if now I was given the opportunity to perform with any local singer, it would be Isham. I like working with artists who are not afraid to experiment and create new sounds.
