Family Affairs ministry starts consultations with partners |24 March 2017

The new Ministry of Family Affairs has started a series of consultative meetings to strengthen collaboration with different partners who are also working to promote family values.

The aim is to get their views and support while going through the process of setting up the new ministry.

Yesterday afternoon Minister Jeanne Simeon chaired a first consultative meeting with members of the Seychelles Interfaith Council (Sifco). The principal secretary for Social Affairs in the same ministry, Linda William Melanie, was also present while the principal secretary for Family Affairs Marie-Josée Bonne was absent as she is on a working mission overseas.

Minister Simeon said when it comes to promoting and supporting families a lot is being done by different organisations and associations and there has been a good collaboration with the department of social affairs. But she stressed that a lot more needs to be done as our families increasingly face new and more complicated challenges thus the need for the new Family Affairs ministry to strengthen and further encourage such collaborations through these consultations.

“We are in the process of setting up a new ministry and your views are very important to us because in your respective faiths you all have programmes that support families,” Minister Simeon said.

She went on to stress that regardless of our different beliefs and different faiths all the different denominations have families that adhere to their principles and they too face challenges. So sharing how these challenges are addressed by the different faiths, the programmes they have to help and support families are all  very important to help our families.

The different members of Sifco took turns in sharing their views and discussed various issues relating to family values and related matters in their respective faiths.
