Ten-man Foresters suffer Dynamo drubbing

Ten-man Foresters suffered a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Northern Dynamo at Stad Linite on Thursday afternoon in a re-arranged first division match.

By the time Foresters’ error prone goalkeeper Elvis Leopold was sent off in the 87th minute the damage had already been done by a dazzling Northern Dynamo display where their squad of youngsters were shining in the setting sun at Stad Linite.

Foresters though should have drawn first blood in this entertaining match as early as the first minute when Tanzanian striker Hussein Bakari set up Laudy Sinon but his shot ended up on the roof of the net when he should have hit the target.

Dynamo responded with a free kick from a tight angle and Joshua Adeline swerved the ball which was heading for the net if not for a goalline clearance by Malagasy Edgard Randrisina with goalkeeper Leopold well beaten.

A minute later, goalkeeper Leopold was at fault with a poor clearance as far as Marcus Maria who twisted and turned before firing low at goal but the Foresters’ custodian saved his own blushes with a good low stop.

Dynamo broke the deadlock in the 14th minute with some superb skill by Malagasy Rajamana who waltzed his way past two defenders to float a ball in the penalty area where Aldo Dufresne smashed the ball into the far corner with a brilliant volley to make it 1-0 which raised the roof at Stad Linite.

Foresters twice went close to level the score. In the 20th minute, Sinon’s corner was met by Brandon Labrosse’s volley which was heading for goal but it was cleared on the goalline by a retreating defender.

Two minutes later, former St Michel defender, Malagasy Leonard Besabotsy drilled a low free kick in the penalty area where Bakari got a touch but Dynamo’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Frank Moutoni produced a decent save to turn the ball into corner.

Foresters duly equalised in the 26th minute from Malagasy Edgard Randrisina’s fee kick which came off Dynamo defender Marcus Cedras and fell invitingly to Labrosse whose shot was parried by goalkeeper Moutoni but he got a second bite of the cherry to rifle the loose ball into the roof of the net for a 1-1 score.

Dynamo regained their advantage just past the half hour mark from a free kick awarded for a foul on Joel Larue and Rajamana curled the ball over the wall and into the near post with goalkeeper Leopold allowing the ball to hit the net under his desperate dive to make it 2-1.

Rajamana grabbed his brace in the 40th minute from a blistering counter attack as Dufresne showed great pace to latch onto Maria’s through ball and his inch-perfect cross was headed home by the deadly Rajamana to make it 3-1 at half time.

Foresters came out after the interval with an aggressive approach as they tried to ruffle Dynamo’s feathers and the Mont Fleuri-based team should have cut the deficit on the hour mark when Tanzanian Bakari exploited some lax defending by their opponents to set up Sinon but he shot over the crossbar from a good scoring position.

Foresters were caught out short in defence in the 70th minute as they threw men forward and Maria pounced on acres of space but was held up by Brian Dorby’s tackle but the loose ball rolled to substitute Wesley Esther who rounded off goalkeeper Leopold with consummate ease to place the ball into an empty net for a 4-1 lead.

Nine minutes later, Foresters were undone by another sucker blow on the counter attack when they should have reduced the arrears from substitute Carlos Mondon’s corner which fell to their unmarked captain Elvin Estico but goalkeeper Moutoni stopped his header before launching his team on the offensive where the ball was played to Rajamana who slipped a pass to Maria.

Maria showed good composure to hold off Besabotsy at arm’s length before stabbing the ball past an advancing goalkeeper Leopold at the near post to make it 5-1.

In the 87th minute, things got from bad to worse for Foresters when Maria chased a long goal kick and goalkeeper Leopold, who had had a poor match, rushed out of his goal to clatter into the Dynamo striker and referee Alistair Barra, who had a good game, had no qualms to dish out a straight red card to compound Leopold and his team’s miserable afternoon.

Foresters had to pull of striker Bakari and brought on reserve goalkeeper Christopher Legaie who had to face a Dynamo free kick on the edge of the penalty area. The free kick was struck by Adeline but the newly introduced goalkeeper pushed out the ball to the lurking Wesley Esther who blasted the loose ball into the roof of the net to seal the biggest victory this season in the league for his team at a whopping 6-1 much to the delight of their coach Cliff Nolin.

“I must congratulate my players for a good performance where we played some good football at times and created many chances and I’m happy with the result,” coach Nolin told Sports NATION.

As for the Foresters’ coach Rodney Choisy whose team suffered their first league defeat, he was crestfallen with his team’s showing.

“It was surely our worst performance for a long time and we allowed our opponents to hurt us on the counter as we also did not take our chances. We are facing difficult times due to a long list of injuries,” the Foresters’ coach revealed to Sports NATION.
