Artist’s profile Alahna Payet (aka Lana): “I fell in love with music at a very young age” |30 March 2017

Every week the Entertainment page will try to bring you a short profile on a Seychellois artist, be it in the performing, visual or other forms of arts.

In our eleventh profile, readers will learn more about the young, talented singer-songwriter and performer Alahna Payet (aka Lana) who took the island by storm with her breathtaking single ‘Million Butterly’ released last year.

It’s been a while since we heard of Alahna, so we decided to find out what she is doing.

Q: When did you start your career as a singer, artist and performer?

A:  I fell in love with music at a very young age. I started performing in (the children’s talent show) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and I was also in the children’s choir.  As I grew older, I started doing backup vocals for certain artists, as well as performing in front of a crowd.

Q: Who inspired you to be a singer?

A:  I was inspired by both of my parents to become a singer. My dad was the famous David Payet in Equinox band; my mother is also a singer. I was born in a family passionate about the sound of music.

My father had a studio, and I used to spend most of my childhood watching him record music with friends.

Q:  What’s your motto you live by?

A:  I try really hard to be the best person I can be. My parents raised me so that I could have a good life and appreciate the small things in life.

Q: How do you tell a story through music using only lyrics?

A: When I am working on the lyrics I try to put my own life’s experiences and transform it into magical lyrics. Different emotions and even memories can be put into lyrics.

Q: It’s been a while since your last single ‘Million Butterfly’ came out. Are you planning on releasing any new single or album?

A: I have released other singles such as ‘Shy’,but ‘Million Butterfly’ was the song that propelled me to ‘stardom’ so to speak. I love to sing, but I have other more important priorities that I want to achieve and many goals to accomplish. I still have time though to go in the studio to perform; this year I featured on a gospel album also.

Q: So, how do you unwind when you aren’t performing or writing songs, etc?

A: Besides music, I like spending quality time with friends and families. I am also a big fan of movies.

Q: Studio work or performing live, which of these do you prefer the most and why?

A: Iprefer to express myself in the studio. It is where the magic happens, where you can modify your lyrics, and make it your work and fully express yourself.

Q: What do we expect from Lana in the years to come?

A: I am currently working on three singles to be released soon and which I think will surprise my fans …
