Holiday time…what to do for the children? |12 April 2017

Every holiday parents have to think of how to keep their children busy. Some are lucky to be able to take holidays with their children but most of the parents have to find activities, nannies or even grandparents or family members to look after their children.

Recreational Educational Service - Doreen Auguste

Doreen Auguste, a physical education teacher, decided to help the parents during holidays after some parents complained they do not know what to do with their children.

“Not all of them had the opportunity to get days off. So I decided to start a holiday club. We first started at Grand Anse Mahé school and many parents complained that it was far. For our first year we had some thirty students. We cater only for children from first year crèche to P6 students. We do mainly activities such as swimming, hikes, outings and discovering new places. We are now based at the Bel Eau school and every school holiday we have some 50 children. We take care of them from 7am to 5pm and it costs R850 per child  for the period starting Tuesday April 18 to Friday May 5 and another R20 per day for lunch,” explained Doreen.

You can call on 2795789 for more details.

Learn & Playroom at Paradis des Enfants

Another service that started two years ago is the Learn & Playroom usually held at Paradis des Enfants. Sylvie Larue started offering this service during holiday time to ease the parents.

“I can cater for 40 children and since I started this service, every holiday I have this number of children coming. Usually parents start calling quite early to book a place for their children. We start at 7.30am and close at 5pm. We usually do arts activities, as well as English and mathematics lessons. Of course playing is also a major component of the day,” explained Ms Larue.

Learn & Playroom caters for children from crèche to P4 and costs R75 per day including lunch. For more details call on 2599668.
