NDEA communiqué - NDEA makes three arrests |24 May 2017

The National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) arrested three men last weekend for the offence of traffic in a controlled drug.

On Friday May 19 the NDEA arrested a 44-year-old casual labourer in the St Louis district with an approximate 20 grammes of suspected heroin in his possession and at his home, along with a total of R5,275 in different denominations.

He was fingerprinted, photographed and interviewed and afterwards cell transferred to the Central Police Station.

On Monday May 22 he appeared before the Magistrate Court where an application for his remand was made and granted until June 5, 2017 when he will reappear in court.

In another operation on the same day on La Digue a 20-year-old bicycle attendant working at Chateau Saint Cloud Hotel was arrested when the NDEA agents was searching his mother’s house where he was residing and found approximately 28.5 grammes of suspected cannabis and 0.6 gramme of suspected cannabis resin.

He was processed at the La Digue NDEA station with a case registered against him for the courts then cell transferred to the La Digue police station until the following day when he was released.

On May 20 on Praslin, a team of NDEA agents arrested a 30-year-old man, a gardener working at the Beach Villa Hotel. He was arrested at the Grand Anse Praslin cemetery in the possession of approximately 10.62 grammes of suspected heroin and a total of R2,400 in different denominations. 

He was processed at the Praslin NDEA station with a case registered against him for the courts then cell transferred to the Baie Ste Anne police station until the next day when he was released.
