Artist profile - Nabby Jules: “Everybody is different and should not be jealous of others” |25 May 2017

Every week the Entertainment page will try to bring you a short profile on a Seychellois artist, be it in the performing, visual or other forms of arts.

In our seventeenth profiles, readers will learn more about the talented musician Nabby Jules.

He was introduced to the music industry at a very young by his father Peter Jules.

He has performed in so many events both locally and internationally in countries such as India, Tanzania, among others.

Nabby is currently in the group Relation Band, and making a name for himself. Every month you can watch Nabby live on the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation’s (SBC) musical programme Zil Tune.

Q: When did you start your career as a musician?

A:  Frankly it all started when I was in primary school. I was influenced by my father Peter Jules, a renown keyboardist. Sometimes I went to watch him perform in live concerts, and I got mesmerised by the great melodies he played.

Q:  What instruments do you play?

A:  I play the keyboard, drums and a little bit of guitar, I am still learning it.

Q: Will you consider yourself a musician or entertainer?

A:  I consider myself a musician, my profession is being a musician making great melodies for the people of Seychelles. I have worked with so many local artists, and many have appreciated my work.

Q:  What’s your motto you live by?

A: Everyone needs to progress in his own way; everybody is different and should not be jealous of others. We have different ways of playing instruments and progressing along the way.

Q: How do you overcome negative comments?

A:  I just listen to them, and don’t bother myself with them; I just live my life so that I can make my family, especially my son Liam Jules proud. I have learned that if we keep listening to negative comments and let them weigh us down, we won’t progress.

Q: What hidden talents do you have?

A: Besides being a full-time musician, in my spare time I work with my father in his studio called Sey Sound Studio, and record music.

Q: Which ingredient do you think makes you special and unique as a musician?

A: When I am playing, I play with my own feelings and determination. I concentrate on the melody, and feel the ambiance.
