First free public Wi-Fi service launched |25 May 2017

Grand Anse Praslin is the first of the eight proposed spots for free public Wi-Fi service – LinkSey ‒ across the country to be officially launched.

This was done in a small ceremony at the district’s community centre in the presence of various stakeholders of the service. It formed part of the activities to commemorate ICT week which was celebrated last week.

The project which started earlier this year is being executed by local provider Airtel Seychelles.

LinkSey is available to all users with Wi-Fi enabled devices such as tablets, smartphones and laptop computers at any LinkSey hotspot zone. The Grand Anse Praslin community centre is a LinkSey hotspot and thus the free Wi-Fi service is available in the vicinity of the building and each user is granted one hour of free internet to ensure that everyone gets the same quality of browsing.

It was Vice-President Vincent Meriton who officially launched the service after Mr Heri, the commercial director of Airtel Seychelles, went through a PowerPoint presentation to introduce and explain the service to the attendees.

“We are very grateful for this service and honoured to be the very first to benefit from this service, especially as this is the first ICT week activity held outside of Mahé. We sincerely hope that the Grand Anse Praslin community will make positive use of it for their personal development and facilitate communication,” the district’s administrator Moses Barbe said.

LinkSey hotspots are also scheduled to be available soon at the Baie Ste Anne Praslin and La Digue community centres, as well as five other places on Mahé.
