NDEA Communiqué - NDEA makes more drug seizures and arrest on Praslin and La Digue |26 May 2017

In three separate operations recently on Praslin and La Digue, the National Drugs Enforcement Agency uprooted and seized some cannabis plants.

During the operations on La Digue, two men were arrested for drug-related offences.

The first arrest for traffic in a controlled drug was made on May 22, 2017 when a 20-year-old man was found in possession of approximately 36.5 grammes of suspected cannabis, three rolls of cling film and R1,800 in five hundred and one hundred rupee notes.

He was transported to the La Digue police station for further formalities and a case has been registered against him for the courts then interviewed, photographed and fingerprinted after which he was detained in a cell until the next day when he was released.

Again on La Digue on May 24, 2017, the NDEA agents arrested another 20-year-old man for the cultivation of a controlled drug after he showed the NDEA agents his 3 cannabis plants close to his mother’s house where he was residing.

At the La Digue NDEA station, a case was registered against him for the courts and he was later released after being interviewed, photographed and fingerprinted.

On the same day on Praslin, a team of NDEA agents uprooted a total of 86 cannabis plants in the hilly area of Bel Air, Grand Anse. No one was arrested in this operation.
