ICT week - Belonie school wins public speaking competition |26 May 2017

Belonie secondary school represented by Zeran Ah-Kon, Takira Prea and Ismaella Bacco is the winner of a public speaking competition organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) under the theme ‘Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology’.

Belonie also grabbed the prize for best overall speaker won by Zeran Ah-Kon. The prize - a free internet connection and one month free internet - has been sponsored by Intelvision.

Second place went to the team from Plaisance secondary school comprising Shakur Bell, Pria Charda and Anrien Port Louis, followed in third place by English River secondary school comprising Wahida Gobin, Sandra Rachel and Carah Loveday.

Besides those three schools, three others also took part in the competition to commemorate ICT week which was celebrated last week. They are Anse Boileau, Anse Royale and Mont Fleuri.

The competition took place yesterday morning at the National Youth Centre, English River.

The main aim of the competition is to give the students an opportunity to develop their research and oratory skills by probing a pertinent topic. It also helps to create awareness of the dangers that can arise from the abuse of technology that are readily available in our homes, schools and communities.

The Youth Coordinator at SNYC Chantal Ellen stated that such competition will allow the students to better understand technology in a more diverse way.

“SNYC has always been part of technology, but we wanted the students to realise the importance of technology, their advantages and disadvantages. It is a small competition but has a big impact on our youths,” she said.

SNYC has thanked Intelvision for sponsoring the prizes and invited other schools to take part in the competition next year.
