Employment Bill - Your proposals please! |26 May 2017

Tomorrow is the last opportunity for the general public to make known their proposals to be included in the employment bill.

Members of the public are being urged to come to the Independence House Annex building, 6th floor from 10am to 1pm, in numbers for the last public consultative meeting organised by the Ministry of Employment, Entrepreneurship Development and Business Innovation.

Employment principal secretary Jules Baker said the amendments are again being put to the public’s attention because the employment bill is a very important document.

“This is why we want to attract a lot more people who can make their contributions towards the proposal,” said Mr Baker.

Altogether, there are 10 new proposals that will be included in the proposed Employment Bill 2016 that will be presented to the cabinet of ministers and later to the National Assembly.

The Employment Bill 2016, which is proposing to replace the Employment Act 1995, which governs the rights and obligations of workers and employers in Seychelles, was presented along with a white paper, in public consultations on Mahé and Praslin in October 2016. Following these consultations, there was a strong call to improve the proposed piece of legislation to bring it in line with Seychelles’ progressive economic development and to provide a more equitable distribution of rights and obligations to ease business operations as well as to enhance productivity.

So, don’t hesitate to take part in the meeting to share your proposals.
