Pilgrims Security celebrates 25-year milestone |03 June 2017

Members of management and staff, friends and customers of Pilgrims Security gathered around the firm’s owner Roy Fonseka at its office at Providence on Wednesday this week to cut a cake in celebration of its silver jubilee.

The ceremony was the opportunity to highlight the security firm’s successes and achievements as well as challenges.

Sandy Roberts, a young man who joined the company in 1999 aged only 17 years, was promoted as Pilgrims Security general manager during the ceremony.

Mr Fonseka said: “With the many pitfalls along the way it certainly required a firm sense of humour to get along, but amongst all those obstacles, we identified some key elements which I believe have been the key to our success.”

He said the key to his success has been through focusing on improving the internal environment for the staff, staff personal and social development for character building and continued re-investment as opposed to the annual temptation of claiming dividends.

Another key element is the relationship which exists between them and their customers.

“We believe in tailoring your requirements to your needs and we will not sell an item not suited to our customer. We look at products very carefully and we are careful that we do not acquire products that cannot be maintained and supported. This is very important in today's moving high tech industry and one can easily get blinded with the information flood,” he said.

Talking about the early business climate that existed then he said “delivering public service to the private sector was a very guarded and cautious affair with heaps of red tapes and indecision. Whilst there exists a totally different positive climate today, there still remains a fair amount of room for improvement in making government services more lean and swift.”

Mr Fonseka said Pilgrims Security’s targets for the next three years will be to bring its services to       hotels, businesses, government establishments... after which it will launch an initial public offering giving priority to staff and customers.

“I await with much anticipation when Seychelles will improve its internet connectivity with the rest of the world. For that we need sufficient cables placed via different mainland to avoid risk of damage by silly incidents of anchor damage. But being located in a safe zone like Seychelles, our monitoring station could well do with half a percent of Africa's monitoring needs,” he said.

Vesna Rakic, whose parents own a small guesthouse which is secured by cameras and sensors, said she is thankful for that good night’s sleep knowing that Pilgrims Security is monitoring the property and the emergency unit is nearby if needed.

“There is no price for peace of mind and we commend your team on their immediate and excellent response whenever our system has been activated,” she said.

After the ceremony guests were led on a guided tour of the establishment during which they learned more about the services the firm provides and had a chance to interact more with members of staff.
