Judiciary reacts to articles in Seychelles Weekly |24 June 2017

The judiciary has described as “unfounded” and “inflammatory” the contents of two articles published in the June 23 issue of the Seychelles Weekly under the headlines ‘Mathilda’s Hall of Shame’ and ‘Seniority of Judge Govinden questioned’.

In a press communiqué issued yesterday, the Judiciary states that there are no sums of money unaccounted for, as referred to in the first article.

“Any such allegations are unfounded,” the communiqué says, adding that the Judiciary’s accounts are audited and can be viewed at any time.

The Judiciary has also confirmed that no judgment in the case of François Octobre was ever given to the Chief Justice, or filed in the Registry.

With regard to the article ‘Seniority of Judge Govinden questioned’, the communiqué says Judge Govinden’s position in protocol is as agreed by all members of the Judiciary according to internal procedures.
