Malaysian university holds Open Day Seychellois students show keen interest |24 June 2017

Secondary school students and others gathered in numbers during a two-day recruitment fair organised by the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) based in Malaysia.

The aim of the fair, held at the Eden Bleu Hotel at Eden Island, was to encourage potential Seychellois students to study at that university.

The event was officially opened on Thursday and ended yesterday.

Seychellois students are not new at that university as they have been going there since 2007. They are either being sponsored by the government or funding themselves.

Representatives from the university, Muhammad Anis Ur Rehman and Jerry Chong, (senior lecturer and manager, student affairs) addressed the students.
“We had given presentation on career opportunities in Computing & Technology, Engineering, Tourism, Business & International Relations. Choosing what to study at university is one of the biggest decisions a student will make as a young person. Our advice to students is that they should put effort and do research in choosing the courses they will go for after completing the IGCSE or A-Levels,” said Mr Ur Rehman.

He also advised students to have interest in what they like to pursue as a course and should follow their dreams towards their career strengths.

Students should also not confuse their liking/hobby with career prospects and opportunities.

“We have also given them information about lifestyle & living in Malaysia. One of our students from Seychelles, Elna Merry Etienne, has shared her own experience with the prospective students,” he noted.
A team from ANHRD (Agency for National Human Resource Development) was present to give students information about scholarships opportunities and on the procedure to apply.

The fair was packed with secondary schools students and others who were interested in pursuing further studies in either Computing & Information Technology, International Relations, Cyber Security, Forensic Computing, Business & Management, Tourism Management, International Business, Engineering, Accounting & Finance, among many others.

They were given brochures of the university portraying the various courses on offer. The fair consisted of two presentations on “Careers in Computing, Technology & Engineering”, and “Careers in Business, Finance & International Relations”. A one-to-one counseling session between the students and the APU team was also held.
