Judiciary steps up effort to improve case management |27 June 2017

Three visiting expert judges granted by the United Nations Office  on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) are presently helping the Judiciary in upskilling judges and lawyers in preparation to introduce procedures to improve case management of civil and criminal cases in the Supreme Court.

These changes and amendments as outlined in the Judiciary strategic plan ‘Vision 2020’ are aimed at expediting case hearings and improving the efficiency of case management.

These amendments seek to improve the efficiency of case management from the filing of the first papers until the delivery of judgment.

With the introduction of these new procedural requirements in civil and criminal cases, members of the public will experience less delay in the progression of their cases in court. Implementation of these changes are scheduled for September 2017.

Training sessions for judges and lawyers will be carried out both during office hours and after hours over the next two weeks.
