Soroptimist International Club of Victoria donates books, care packs to prisoners at Montagne Posée |28 June 2017

The Soroptimist International Club of Victoria has donated books, magazines and personal care and hygienic packs to the prisoners at Montagne Posée prison.

The president of the club, Angelika Maurel, accompanied by a group of Soroptimist members presented the donation to the Superintendent of Prisons, Vic Tirant and his management team.

On presenting the donation, Mrs Maurel said she hoped the books would help both the male and female prisoners to keep busy while serving their sentences.

Accepting the donation, Mr Tirant thanked the Soroptimist Club for their generous donation and said the books and magazines will be well kept in the different libraries and great use will be made of them by both the male and female prisoners.

The books and magazines will be sent to the libraries within the male and female prison units at Montagne Posée as well as the Detention Remand Facility at Bois de Rose.

The personal care and hygienic products are to be distributed to the female prisoners.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the visiting UNODC prisons consultant, Bill Cullen, the special advisor for prisons in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Raymond St. Ange, and other senior management staff of the Montagne Posée prison.
