A group of young people have received their tickets to take part in the 13th Shanghai International Youth Interactive Friendship Camp scheduled to take place in China, Shanghai from July 18-27.

The six individuals ‒ Bernadette Barbier (coordinator), Kimberley Marie, Shanna Michel, Joanne Laurette, Richarno Marie and Churtill Rose ‒ received their tickets in a small ceremony at the Mayor’s Office, State House Avenue yesterday afternoon in the presence of the Mayor of Victoria David André, the chief executive (CEO) of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) Alvin Laurence, parents, and SNYC staff.

The six individuals were chosen by the SNYC when they took part in the Positive Youth Award last year.

The exchange programme falls under the twinning agreement signed between the City of Victoria and the City of Shanghai of the People’s Republic of the China in October 2013.

The programme will allow the youth to further promote the exchange and friendship between the young people of different countries, also by providing an opportunity for the young delegates to build a bridge for friendship, and a platform for exchange beyond language and a cultural barrier to develop a spirit of cooperation among them.

The Mayor of Victoria, Mr André, stated that such exchange will allow Seychelles to promote its culture.

“Such exchange will allow the youth to promote our culture, share our traditional dance, music among others. It will also provide them with the opportunity to learn more about a new culture, and make new friends,” he said.

One of the youths taking part in the exchange, Richarno Marie, said he is ready to share our culture with China.

“I was chosen for best student in young citizens, I was really active in the youth programmes. I will promote Seychelles through our traditional dance, make them discover Seychelles, and invite them to experience our culture. Seychelles has got a lot to offer in terms of culture, and we need to keep promoting our heritage,” he said.

The visit is sponsored by the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with foreign countries and Shanghai Youth Federation.
