Anse Royale’s popular beachfront restaurant reopens as Kafe Kreol |13 July 2017

Kafe Kreol Café & Restaurant situated on the beach at Anse Royale opens tomorrow, Friday July 14.

It is the former Kaz Kreol restaurant and pizzeria which will reopen under a new name as well as new management.

The place has closed down for several months during which it changed hands and underwent a complete refurbishment and facelift carried out by its new owner ‒ Café Royale Company Ltd.

The work was carried out by Mahé Design and Build.

Kafe Kreol Café & Restaurant’s new managing director Carola Frichot said they would have liked to keep the former name but this has not been possible so they have chosen something closer to it.

Prior to its opening to the public, Ms Frichot, her family and the team of Seychellois she has put together to offer visitors and the local public the real taste of Creole dishes and services, welcomed some tourism industry representatives, close friends, neighbours, district representatives and members of the press to tour the renovated restaurant and apprise themselves of all that the restaurant offers. The same evening, Roman Catholic priest, Father Patrice from the Anse Boileau parish, blessed the establishment while Ms Frichot welcomed everyone. It was her young daughter Emmanuelle who unveiled the plaque to open the restaurant.

Painted in bright green on the outside, a mixture of light blue, light green and brown on the inside, the different colours go well with the simple but striking and beautifully furnished establishment which will no doubt remain as popular among both locals and visitors.

Modern but rustic furniture have been placed in the lobby, restaurant and beachfront sitting area.

Art works by local artists Camille Mondon, Leon Radegonde, Jeanne D’Offay and Christine Chetty-Payet as well as a beautiful and bright coloured mural adorn the freshly painted walls at the entrance and lobby. Brown corded gunny material artistically placed matted the ceiling from which hang some colourful but appropriately shaded lights which give the place that special relaxing atmosphere for some and add to the romantic mood for others in search of this kind of setting.

Facing the sea, the bar has been also artistically designed with rustic unvarnished wood and decorated with an array of different coloured glass bottles, a wonderful sight for clients in the restaurant as they enjoy their meals or drinks.

On that particular Saturday evening guests were treated to some delicious cocktails, juices and freshly made breadfruit chips as they leisurely toured the place while every now and then shaking their feet to remove sand which had piled in their shoes. Jean-Marc Volcy and Antoinette Dodin entertained guests with their most loved tunes.

“We have tried our best not to change much to the old building itself but instead as much as possible tried to add that Creole touch,” Ms Frichot said.

She pointed out that Kafe Kreol will offer visitors and Seychellois families alike a place where they can relax, enjoy the sea view and savour some good Creole food with their feet in the sand just like before.

Kafe Kreol will specialise not only in authentic Seychellois but also Italian cuisine.

Ms Frichot noted that most of their products will be fresh and sourced from local fishermen.

“We want to involve  the community  as much as possible and we are also working on a programme with the Youth Hostel whereby students can come and gain work experience at the restaurant. We are ready to teach them,” Ms Frichot said.

She added that the restaurant, which will open from 10am to 10pm every day, will cordially welcome everyone. Right at the entrance there is a small ice cream parlour. Drinks and pizzas will also be available and there are sitting facilities for friends and family members to enjoy time together.

“We also have a little corner for the little ones to play and gradually as we go along we will see what more we can add to give our clients the best experience,” Ms Frichot pointed out.
