First Global International Robotics Challenge Nisti wins outstanding supporter bronze medal |22 July 2017

The National Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (Nisti) won the bronze medal for the Al-Khwarizmi Award for outstanding supporting organisation at the First Global International Robotics Challenge in Washington DC, United States of America (USA).

The award is for outstanding supporter to the First Global Challenge 2017 and for promoting the cause of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Stem) in their country and the development of a new international technologically capable generation.

It is also for the organisation that guides and trains new specialists and philanthropists while putting their resources and energy to the common good.

The Beau Vallon secondary school was representing Seychelles as a nation and Nisti provided the support as the national coordinator and facilitator for the First Global Challenge Initiative.

This is part of Nisti's national initiative to rekindle the interests, appreciation and motivation for Stem education through science, technology and innovation clubs in order to reverse the trend of the decline in Stem-based knowledge and skills.

Overall Team Seychelles was ranked 105th out of 163 countries, beating countries like the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Egypt, Hong Kong, Belgium, Uruguay, Sri Lanka and Russia.

The students who took part in the challenger were Nellie Azemia as team leader, Stana Mousbe as the press and spokesperson, Damian Ernesta and Frazer Nalletamby as the programmer, builder and operators, Shana Banane as designer and Anil Buron as designer, builder and  tactician.
