‘Netwayaz’ operations

More arrests by NDEA and police

The National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) and the department of police last week arrested several persons for drug related offences during the ‘Netwayaz’ operations.

Two men were arrested for trafficking in a controlled drug in two separate incidents while 16 persons (13 male and three female) were arrested and released after having been cautioned for possession of a controlled drug with the youngest aged 17 years and the eldest 47 years.

In addition, three men were arrested for threatening NDEA agents while on duty.

In the first arrest for trafficking in a controlled drug a 28-year-old unemployed man from Beau Vallon was arrested on July 17, 2017 in that same district in possession of approximately 2.1 grammes of suspected heroin and a digital scale.

The second arrest made on July 18, 2017 for a similar offence was at Quincy Village where a 27-year-old male driver from the same sub-district was arrested in possession of approximately 85.2 grammes of compressed herbal material suspected to be cannabis.

Both men were charged and released after a case of trafficking in a controlled drug was registered against them for the courts.

On the same day, July 18, 2017, in the uphill area of Grand Anse Praslin, a team of NDEA agents uprooted and seized 849 cannabis plants. No one was arrested from this seizure and investigation is still active in this case.

The accompanying photographs show some of the exhibits seized during the arrests.
