Historic youth-led concert against bullying |27 July 2017

Bullying has become an alarming issue and to help raise awareness about it, a concert was organised last Friday rallying over 30 artists. The Empower concert, which has been hailed a success, was organised by the Stand Up Step Up Seychelles Association.

Chaired by Trevor Louise, the association is made up of young Seychellois who are committed to addressing the issue of bullying in schools. Artists in the likes of Antoinette Dodin, Regi, Elijah, Cus Mun, Telcy, T-Trey and Oriji enthralled a cheering crowd gathered at the International Conference Centre for the show.

The youth-led association plans to organise such concert annually and Mr Louise said the association is looking into the possibility of organising concerts on  La Digue as well.

“Apart from raising awareness on bullying, the concert was aimed at showing the victims and bullies that there are people who are committed to helping and supporting them, and that we are here to work with them,” he added.

Mr Louise said he was amazed by the number of artists who expressed their commitment and interest to take part in the show.

He added that the funds raised from the youth-led concert will be used to organise sessions for parents and students which will equip them with knowledge and skills needed to identify bullying and to help those who need support.

Aside from the renowned Seychellois artists, dancers from the school of dance as well as a group of male Malagasy dancers also brought their support to this cause by taking part in the concert.
