ACCS chief executive refutes Independent newspaper allegations |27 July 2017
The chief executive of the Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles (ACCS) has refuted the suggestion made by an article published in the Independent newspaper on July 21, 2017 to the effect that she has divulged sensitive information and has reassured the public that ACCS carries out its work with independence and impartiality.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles wishes to state that it cannot be held responsible for statements made without its authorisation by third parties who may or may not have complete or accurate information concerning the cases it is investigating. The primordial need for confidentiality prevents the ACCS from responding to speculation on live cases,” says a communiqué from the ACCS in reference to the said article in the Independent newspaper.
The communiqué adds:
“The CEO categorically refutes the suggestion made by the said article, that she has divulged any sensitive information and reassures the public that ACCS carries out its work with independence and impartiality.
“ACCS acknowledges the fact that there are high expectations from the general public. However, we kindly urge the public to take into consideration and understand that the Commission was recently established and the CEO was only appointed in March, this year. Since then, the Commission has been focused in setting up its strategic plan, operations, recruiting the right personnel and training as well as recording and investigating complaints.
“We take this opportunity to encourage and remind the general public that anyone may lodge a corruption related complaint with ACCS by:
- visiting our head office in Victoria House (4th floor) and speak directly with a complaints officer.
- calling our office telephone number (248) 4326061 to speak with a complaints officer.
- posting a letter to P.O box 1456, addressing the Complaints Manager
- sending an email at complaints01@accs.sc.
“The ACCS office hours are from 8am to 4pm, from Monday till Friday.
