Eye patients benefit from visit of Indian specialist |27 July 2017

Patients suffering from serious eye problems such as glaucoma have had the opportunity to consult with Dr Rajat Dhesi, a prominent eye specialist from India.

Dr Rajat, who is a glaucoma and cataract specialist, offered his services free of charge from July 25 to July 27 at the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Eye Clinic at the Seychelles Hospital.

These interactions were facilitated by the Jeo Jyoti Foundation/JJ India, an NGO set up by Surya Khanna in November 2010.

“Dr Rajat agreed to see certain patients while on holiday in the Seychelles,” Mr Khanna clarified.

“In fact he has promised to continue sending specialists from his hospital regularly if the Ministry of Health agrees. We have already talked to the minister and he was very positive about it,” he continued.

According to Flora Noshir, the nurse manager of the Eye Clinic, the doctor was expected to consult approximately 30 patients during these three days.

“Dr Rajat will see the patients and write up his report and recommendations. After which Dr Roland Barbe (an ophthalmologist at the Eye Clinic) will continue following their cases,” Ms Noshir stated.

Currently working at Prakash Netra Kendr in Lucknow in India, Dr Rajat has praised the efforts the government has put into improving the health facilities in Seychelles especially given constraints the ministry encounters such as lack of human resources.
