Football - St Michel part company with coach Victor |28 July 2017

Top local club St Michel United have parted company with their head coach Roddy Victor since this week.

Coach Victor took the helm last year when coach Ralph Jean-Louis left to work with the national team full time until September and was placed as the head coach at the start of this year when Jean-Louis defected to join up with league champions Côte d’Or.

But after winning the President’s Cup at the beginning of the season, results have not gone St Michel’s way as they lie in third position in the league and have already been knocked out of the Airtel Cup at the first time of asking as they easily relinquished their crown in a competition which they have won seven times in the last decade.

The average results on the pitch and more so the level of performances have not gone down well with the team’s large fan base who are not happy that the team have allowed the likes of Karl Hall, Gervais Waye-Hive, Jocelyn Fenosoa and Gino Melanie to leave.

As a result, it seems that the St Michel management has decided to relieve Roddy Victor of his coaching duties since their embarrassing loss against bottom club Red Star-Defence Forces last weekend and when Sports NATION asked former midfielder Victor to comment on this speculation about his position with the Anse Aux Pins-based team, he just said he was not with the team for the time being and will give a more exclusive interview about his situation at a later date.

As for the St Michel management, no one wished to comment on this matter as there are even reports that they had contacted their former coach Ralph Jean-Louis to return after he left Côte d’Or prematurely in May but he was not keen to come back.

Therefore it seems that Ahmed Abdou will be asked to lead the squad until the end of the season as it is hoped he will revive the fortune of this most successful team in local football.
