Miss Seychelles … Another World 2017 - Contestants show off hidden talents |08 August 2017

The 14 contestants of Miss Seychelles … Another World 2017 proved they possess more than beauty in a charity talent show held last Sunday at the International Conference Centre Seychelles.

The talent show competition forms part of several challenges which will help determine the overall pageant winner.

However, the aim of this year’s talent competition involved so much more than displaying the contestants’ talents.

The main purpose behind the show was to raise funds for the ‘Make A Child Smile’, a local charity founded by Clifford Mondon which help children with disabilities all over the country.

This is the first time the contestants have collectively come together to engage in raising funds for a charity. The crowned Miss Seychelles, rather than the contestants, is usually the one who takes up social causes and charity works.

Before a full house, the contestants demonstrated their talents which varied from singing, dancing, storytelling, poem recitals to kick-boxing and karate. They also collectively performed a set of traditional kanmtole dance.

The main organiser Terry Carolla said the ladies’ great performances in the show were short of a miracle given the constraints and pressure they had been under.

“We were unable to get the International Conference Centre of Seychelles (ICCS) hall for a proper rehearsal so we did not rehearse the show at all. We pieced the act together today (Sunday). But everything has surpassed my expectation and I’m very happy,” said Mr Carolla.

Although the contestants were not able to refine their acts, their performances were well received by the audience who cheered them along.

The show also featured guest artists such as Telsy, Sandra, Fastidious, Tina and Mia.

Mr Carolla estimates that the total proceeds which will go towards ‘Make A Child Smile’ to be around R45,000 to R50,000.

“ICCS can hold up to 600 people and we were selling the tickets at R100 so we originally targeted R50,000 to R60,000. It's still unclear how much the show has made today but the amount will be released at the soonest,” he added.

The charity event concluded with the presentation of T-shirts from Mr Mondon, on behalf of his charity, to all 14 contestants and also to the Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture Mitcy Larue who was in attendance.

The winner of this talent show will be announced on the night of the pageant itself on August 26, tickets for which are already on sale at R1,500.
