WiseOceans and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles certify first graduates of Baie Lazare marine programme |11 August 2017

Fifteen pupils from Baie Lazare school have received certificates after completing a six-month marine programme.

This was marked by a presentation ceremony and the painting of a marine themed mural at the school.

Since February 2017, the WiseOceans marine educators based at the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles have partnered with Baie Lazare school to deliver a programme of seven marine education workshops to 15 pupils from the school’s Eco Club. To mark the end of the successful programme, the participants received certificates that named them as Marine Ambassadors and celebrated by painting a marine themed mural together with staff and other children at the school.

Over the past six months, the children from the P5 group have taken part in seven marine education workshops run by WiseOceans.

The workshops covered different topics related to three types of marine ecosystems, helping pupils to understand the value of these marine ecosystems and how they connect to each other.

The pupils had the opportunity to take part in field trips around the island to observe what they had learned in school, including visiting the mangroves at Barbarons and going snorkelling at Petite Anse, as well as develop observation skills, critical thinking, presentation skills and creativity.

General manager Adrian Messerli commented: “We have an excellent partnership with WiseOceans and I am so happy that we can extend this into the local community. Projects like this one have a direct impact on our local environment and inspire the next generation of conservationists, so it has been a pleasure to welcome the children to the resort and I’m sure they’ll pass on what they have learned to their friends with much enthusiasm!!”

The programme ended with a final workshop at Baie Lazare school yesterday. Upon completion, children were given certificates that recognised their efforts and named them as Marine Ambassadors who will share their knowledge with other students, family and friends in the local community.
