37th Ordinary SADC Summit for Heads of States and Governments |23 August 2017

 President Faure lists priority areas

The admission of the Union of Comoros in the South African Development Community, HIV/Aids, the drugs scourge, and the industrialisation process of the region to bolster its economic growth are some of the priority areas President Danny Faure focused on during his interventions at the 37th SADC Summit for Heads of States and Government in Pretoria, South Africa.

President Faure put forward these priorities during the two days of deliberations which resulted in numerous strategic decisions taken and that are expected to lead to new actions for the benefit of member states of the region.

His interventions focused on priority areas of strong interest to Seychelles.

On the first day of the summit, Heads of States discussed the socio-economic situation in the region, the performance of the South African Development Community (SADC) economy, gender and development, and food security in the region.

The final day saw further discussions on important decisions relating to the admission of the Union of Comoros into the SADC family, African Union institutional reforms, and as a conclusion the summit's communiqué was unanimously adopted.

Namibia has been elected vice-chair of SADC and declared that it will host the next summit in 2018.
