Miss Regatta contestants officially presented |24 August 2017

Round Table Seychelles (RTS) have presented the ten contestants for this year’s Miss Regatta pageant, which will be held on Saturday September 30 at 7pm.

This was in a small ceremony held this week at Breizh Café near Eden Island in the presence of sponsors, media houses, Round Table members and the reigning Miss Regatta,, accompanied by the two outgoing Regatta princesses.

The ten contestants for Miss Regatta beauty pageant 2017 are: Gillian Come, Elke Moncherry, Neela Ernesta, Jorestina Cafrine, Ranny Labrosse, Marsha Zelia, Gina Isidore, Beverly Moncherry, Enelda Marchaterre and Shania Naiken.

All spruced up for the occasion, the girls were individually introduced to the attendees by the pageant’s creative director Denis Rose.

Neil Puresh, the current RTS president and coordinator of Regatta 2017, congratulated the contestants for the hard work they have put into their training and in helping RTS sell their popular Regatta lottery tickets.

“It is the first time that we see such an active group who has bonded so well. In fact they are extremely devoted to making this year’s pageant a success,” Mr Puresh said.

Initiated in 2005 the Miss Regatta beauty pageant is one of the standout activities of the annual Regatta, the biggest charitable event in Seychelles.

This year’s proceeds are expected to go towards the refurbishment of the School for the Exceptional Child located at Roche Caiman, a joint venture between RTS and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.

Many of the contestants expressed their philanthropic interests in the cause, stating that it was about time children with disabilities were properly taken care of.

The outgoing Miss Regatta, Felicita Filipin, had this message for the future Miss Regatta: “I hope she does take part in events, because we have had some crowned Miss Regatta before that didn’t do anything. They shouldn’t think you just wear the crown and not do anything else.”

Indeed the role of a crowned Miss Regatta is to be the ambassador of RTS, and she is expected to participate in all the charitable and social events organised by the association during her tenure.

The 44th Regatta is set for September 29 - October 1, with the Miss Regatta beauty pageant itself happening on stage for free at the well known Beau Vallon site.
