National Assembly resumes |12 September 2017

The National Assembly resumes its sittings today with the presence of three ministers before the House for Question Time.

The Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport Charles Bastienne will answer 10 oral questions regarding his ministry followed by a Private Notice Question from the leader of the opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan relating to the recent announcement of bonuses for teachers.

Dr Peter Larose, the Minister for Finance, Trade and Economic Planning will respond to an Urgent Question from the leader of government business, Charles De Commarmond, regarding the cost of living in Seychelles.

Additionally, two motions will be debated on by members. The first motion is by Simon Gillwho is calling for a study by the concerned institutions with the aim of establishing the manpower needs within all departments, at all levels of the government structure to provide for capacity building which will allow their performance to be more efficient and effective.

The second motion is from Hon. Ramkalawan who is calling for IDC, through its chief executive Glenny Savy, to appear in front of the Assembly to provide clear explanations as to the role of IDC in the construction sector. This is in view of the fact that President Faure in his Address to the Assembly announced that IDC will have until the end of next year to pull out from the construction sector.
