Karting championship round five |20 September 2017

Drivers take important wins in sweltering heat

Round five of the karting championship was held in sweltering weather last weekend and the racing was just as hot, with the results at the end of the day making the battle this year as tight as ever.

The class winners on the day were Marc Delcy in SF2, Liza Rene-Cosgrow in SFLadies, Dean Germain in SF3 and Fabio William in SF4.

With a full grid in the SF2 class, Marc Delcy was in a league of his own on the day and he won by a country mile, while behind him there was a mighty battle between the other seven drivers who fought for the top positions. In the end, Damian Bonnelame took second place and Krisl Gopal was third.

The win places Marc Delcy in a comfortable position in the championship for now, but as points will be dropped soon by the organisers, the gap will narrow by the time they get to the last round.

Marc Delcy has 85 points, Damian Bonnelame 68 and Peter Fred 56.

In the ladies’ class, Liza Rene-Cosgrow did the same, winning by a big margin, while rival Mitra Labrosse had to fight Louisa Lafortune for second place. Phillipa Samson continued to make progress after starting late by taking fourth position.

Mitra Labrosse still leads the table by 4 points over Liza Rene-Cosgrow while Louisa Lafortune is a further 15 points behind.

In the SF3 division, there was a controversy after race winner Amadave Camille was penalised for racing under the minimum weight limit and was demoted to fifth place, thus promoting Dean Germain to first position.

Dominic Morin took second place with Sebastian Henriette third. Dean Germain still leads the table with 82 points, followed by Dominic Morin on 73 and Mitra Labrosse third with 54 points.

Fabio William take the win in the SF4 class and in second place was Jacques Payet. Danielson Melanie took a distant third.

Fabio Williams leads the class with 81, with Jacques Payet on 79 and Louisa Lafortune on 52.

As the season moves towards its final stages, dropped points will soon begin, where, depending on how many races are left, each competitor will have to drop their worst or lowest scores by the final race. This will surely make the final rounds even closer than anticipated.

This weekend the drivers will be at it again in the back-to-back round 6.
