Labour minister visits ports authority |21 September 2017

The Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status, Myriam Telemaque, along with a delegation comprising senior officials from her ministry have visited the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA).

This visit which is a part of her on-going programme for the enhancement of partnership with the private sector also provides support to the establishment and employees.

The visit to the SPA consisted of a tour of the premises which provided the opportunity for the ministerial delegation to interact with the employees at their work station as well as discuss with the management.

In the course of the visit, the staff expressed appreciation of the visit though some issues were raised which included provision of adequate and comfortable protective gear (shoes) and salary structure for the security workers.

In the meeting, Minister Telemaque raised these issues with the management whereby the chief executive, Colonel Andre Ciseau, explained the situation and basis for some of the complaints brought forward.

The minister expressed her satisfaction with the five-year development plan the SPA has for upgrading the ports.

She also urged the management to take into consideration while developing the ports the incorporation of upgraded employment conditions as well.

The minister assured the full support of her ministry and the provision of assistance to the management of the SPA in the exercise of best practices to facilitate smooth running of the establishment’s projects.
