Seychelles makes waves at Cheonan World Dance Festival |22 September 2017

Seychelles recently made headlines at the Cheonan World Dance Festival (CWDF) after fourteen local dancers and musicians from the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts took part and came out winners.

The Seychelles team won three prizes in the categories such as International Dance Competition (Special Prize), Solo and Duet Competition (Special Prize) and Funny Dance Battle (Gold Prize).

The fourteen talented individuals returned home on an Emirates flight earlier this week and were welcome at the Seychelles International Airport by the Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture Mitcy Larue, the principal secretary (PS) for culture Cecile Kalebi, among others.

The CWDF celebrates the traditional dances, songs and costumes of Korea and other countries can participate in singing and dancing competitions or attend a reenactment of a Korean traditional wedding.

The Seychelles team competed against thirteen other countries such as Brazil, Peru, Russia, Poland, among others.

Minister Larue thanked the delegation for making Seychelles proud abroad and for giving everything they had to show that Seychelles has got astonishing talents.

“Seychelles has got amazing talents and you managed to make our small country proud by excelling in this artistic competition. You all came out winners and together you made sure that Seychelles can rub shoulders with other talented countries,” she said.

Minister Larue gave each participant a token of appreciation for their outstanding performance in the competition.

The head of delegation, Daniella Rose, stated that having competed in the competition has allowed them to gather more experience to share with other individuals.

“From my experience, we never expected to win so many prizes. The other countries were quite talented, but we tried our best to make Seychelles proud. Each prize we won is important and the reason for our success is that we worked as a team,” she said.
