Minister Dogley inspects progress on drainage projects in two regions of Mahé |23 September 2017

The Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Energy, Didier Dogley, yesterday inspected major drainage works in the eastern and southern parts of the island.

These were mainly the flood mitigation works at Ex-Chetty flats and near Carefree Guesthouse at Anse aux Pins; Remie Estate at Anse Royale and Petit Barbarons, Grand Anse Mahé.

Works on the Chetty Flats project is about eighty-five percent complete and has reached the lower part of the channel closer to the Carefree bridge where the last culvert will be constructed.

It will be followed by rock armouring, retaining walls and small footpath bridge among others. The whole project is expected to be completed end of October.

The Carefree bridge consists of widening and re-profiling the Chetty flats channel so as to improve its capacity to receive the flow from the channel. The project is about ninety percent complete with the main structure of the bridge completed.

After remaining works are done like the supporting structures of the bridge and facilities for utilities, the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) will apply asphalt on the surface before opening the road.

More details of the works being implemented on all drainage projects visited will be published in a future edition.
