China celebrates 68th National Day anniversary |29 September 2017

The People’s Republic of China celebrated its 68th National Day anniversary with a reception at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Wednesday evening.

Present at the ceremony were Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles Yu Jinsong; Vice-President Vincent Meriton; Ambassador Claude Morel, Foreign Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs; ministers; members of the National Assembly; among other distinguished guests.

Relations between Seychelles and China continue to maintain a good momentum of development with fruitful results in cooperation in political, economic, trade, culture, education, military and other areas.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Yu stated that China and Seychelles enjoy a good relationship which has brought about a lot of new developments in Seychelles.

“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 41 years ago, China and Seychelles have always maintained the principle of sincerity, friendship, equality, mutual trust, cooperation and win-win situation. Bilateral relations have been developing smoothly,” she said.

She added that many developments have been made possible as a result of this great cooperation between the two countries.

“China and Seychelles signed a memorandum of understanding regarding construction of a low-carbon demonstration zone in Seychelles to tackle climate change. In June, a special representative of the Chinese government on African Affairs, Ambassador Xu Jinghu, visited Seychelles. In July, the Corgate Estate Redevelopment Project started, a project funded by China. In August, China signed an agreement with Seychelles for the financing and construction of the Seychelles Radio and Broadcasting House. Eight Seychellois applicants were awarded Chinese government scholarships and left for university studies in Beijing. This year more than 100 Seychellois have participated in workshops in China,” she cited.

Ambassador Morel also highlighted the benefits that the Seychelles-China relationship has brought about.

“For many years, China and Seychelles have given each other mutual support and assistance in their national construction. We have cooperated successfully in almost all areas. The projects that the two countries have made together, such as the Palais de Justice, the National Assembly and the housing estate, have become symbols of such friendship. To these symbols will soon be added the SBC house, a new flagship of Chinese know-how and solidarity,” he said.

During the ceremony the Seychelles National Choir was also present to entertain guests.
