Fugitive Seychellois couple wanted in drug case caught by Kenyan police and repatriated |02 October 2017

A Seychellois couple wanted for questioning by the National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) since 2015 in relation to an investigation into a case of drug importation in 2014 and have been on the run since, have been caught by Kenyan authorities and were repatriated to Seychelles yesterday.

The couple were handed over to the NDEA by Kenyan authorities early yesterday morning in Nairobi and were flown back to Seychelles the same afternoon via a Kenya Airways flight.

The couple were caught on Thursday by Kenyan authorities between the Tanzanian and Mombasa, Kenya border with fake documents.

The couple who have been linked to an NDEA investigation of a consignment of drugs imported and seized in 2014 have been sought by the NDEA since May 2015 when blue notices were issued by Interpol.

Speaking to the press at the airport yesterday, deputy chief executive of the NDEA Romano Songor said it is thanks to the good cooperation and collaboration in intelligence sharing Seychelles has with the Interpol, the Kenyan and Tanzanian police.

Mr Songor said it was on Thursday last week that NDEA was informed by Kenyan police that the couple were caught crossing the border from Tanzania to Kenya.

“The NDEA immediately mobilised a team to travel to Kenya to meet the authorities to finalise the couple’s transfer back to Seychelles. Once off the plane the two have been formally arrested as suspects in the case in which they were wanted,” Mr Songor said.

He said the couple will be held in police and NDEA custody and will appear in court this morning.

Mr Songor said investigation in the case has been ongoing and now new information will come in from the authorities of the two countries as well as the two suspects to move the case forward.
