Football: SFF Cup - St Michel blitz past Bwalo Boyz |06 October 2017

Reigning SFF Cup winners and first division club St Michel easily brushed aside second division outfit Bwalo Boyz 12-0 at Stad Linite in this year’s SFF Cup round of 16 on Wednesday afternoon.

This was a one-sided affair as St Michel grabbed this match by the scuff of its neck from the kick-off to open the floodgate as early as the 3rd minute.

It started from Neil Confiance’s cross which came off a defender and fell nicely to Andy Mougal who shot past goalkeeper Selby Toussaint for a 1-0 lead.

St Michel stretched their advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute from a marauding run forward by Nelson Laurence to pick out Confiance who headed home unchallenged.

Malagasy Benjamin Razakatiana got on the score sheet in the 32nd minute after Laurence and Confiance combined before crossing the ball to him and he had time to control and stab the ball into the net to make it 3-0.

The St Michel supporters kept urging their team to aim for more goals as Bwalo Boyz looked to have given up.

The defending cup holders added a fourth in the 37th minute from Antonyo Ratafina’s cross which the Bwalo Boyz goalie Toussaint failed to hold onto and Razakatiana latched on to set up Ghanaian Emmanuel Nuhey whose low volley ended in the net for a 4-0 scoreline.

St Michel skipper, Malagasy Hassan Aly was unlucky in the 38th minute with a long range effort which crashed against the crossbar as his team went in at half-time with a commanding lead.

Bwalo Boyz should have reduced the deficit in the 49th minute from a mistake by St Michel goalkeeper Alvin Michel who let in Jude Commettant but he took too long to adjust his shot and was crowded out.

The players of coach Ahmed Abdou went further ahead five minutes later from another Ratafina cross to Razakatiana who in turn teed up Mougal whose sweet volley beat goalkeeper Toussaint to make it 5-0 and earned his brace.

Razakatiana showed fantastic speed in the 58th minute to pounce on a through ball to leave two defenders in his wake before blasting the ball past goalkeeper Toussaint for his brace and a 6-0 score.

On the hour mark, Razakatiana turned provider as he galloped down the right and then pulled the ball back to captain Aly who rifled it into the net (7-0).

Six minutes later, St Michel made it 8-0 as Laurence released Confiance who breezed past a defender to thump the ball past a hapless goalkeeper Toussaint to grab his brace.

Bwalo Boyz had another decent chance in the 67th minute as captain Erwin Pragassen burst through to hold off Yannick Manou’s challenge but substitute goalkeeper Joshua Vengadasamy blocked his shot.

St Michel were on cloud nine in the 71st minute when Razakatiana created space for Nuhey to rifle a low shot into the net for a 9-0 score.

Mougal grabbed his hat-trick in the 76th minute from Ratafina’s decent cross which goalkeeper Toussaint failed to cut out allowing the St Michel striker to place the ball into an empty net as they reached double figure at 10-0.

In the 81st minute, referee Alistair Barra rightly issued a second yellow card to Bwalo Boyz’ Lovence Calva for dissent towards assistant referee Stephan Dugasse after being booked earlier for elbowing Confiance.

Ten-man Bwalo Boyz conceded again in the 85th minute from Nuhey’s near post corner which was met by Laurence’s glancing header to make it 11-0.

The Anse Boileau-based team were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute when Marcus Esparon was tripped by Manou. However, captain Pragassen, who took responsibility of the spot kick, shot tamely at goalkeeper Vengadasamy who saved easily.

St Michel put the icing on the cake of their biggest victory this season in the 89th minute as Confiance skipped past Ginel Amelie to centre to substitute Leeroy Mathiot who slid home for a whopping 12-0 result to propel them into the quarterfinals.

St Michel manager Andrew Jean-Louis was pleased with the goal feast though his team at times were too over-confident.

“It was a good match practice for my team and we scored lots of goals which will boost morale in the team, but at times we were rather complacent despite our total domination. But we are also pleased we are through to the next round,” revealed the St Michel manager.

As for Bwalo Boyz coach Jemmy Lemiel, he admitted it was a match against a top team which proved very difficult for them to cope with.

“We were fully aware that this was going to be a really tough match for us as our opponents are more superior to us but we tried to enjoy ourselves though our performance has been affected for not being in action for a while,” the Bwalo Boyz coach told Sports NATION.
