Habitat Week - Two residents of Anse Royale get new homes |06 October 2017

Jocelyn Brutus and Cecile Jean can now live in comfort after receiving the keys to their new houses in Kap Bonmzan, in the Anse Royale district, yesterday during a short ceremony which formed part of Habitat Week celebrations.

The office manager of the Anse Royale district administration (DA) and acting DA Cultina Morel handed over the keys to them.

Both residents who were in difficulty received assistance to build their new houses.
The previous home of Mrs Brutus, who is a pensioner, was badly damaged by a falling tree last year.

Her new one bedroom house which has cost R320,000 was fully funded by the government of Seychelles and took five weeks to build.

Mrs Jean’s two bedroom house was partially funded by the government and built by Damoo builders construction company, the owner of which is Ramesh Pillay who is also Mrs Jean’s past employer.

The house which has cost around R500,000 took less than three months to build.

Mrs Brutus and Mrs Jean both expressed their gratitude for being able to receive their new home.

Mrs Jean said she is happy as she gets to live in a more sanitary and pleasant environment.

“My previous house had leaks and the conditions did not meet the sanitary officers’ requirements as my situation was very bad so now I would like to thank the DA, my former boss and the district for all their support,” she said.

Mr Pillay said he was born and raised in Anse Royale so helping out a fellow citizen was not an issue.

“I’m used to helping out families in various communities and I am committed to helping out the districts in which I conduct business,” he said.

Ms Morel said Mrs Jean’s case is the perfect example of what can be achieved by public private partnership.

Present during the handover ceremony was the district’s elected member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sylvanne Lemiel, project officer from the Ministry of Local Government David Constance, relatives and other stakeholders.
