Rotary Club of Victoria donates to NCC’s ‘Courage’ campaign |09 October 2017

The Rotary Club of Victoria recently took a stronger stance on child protection and its challenges by donating R30,000 to the National Council for Children (NCC) for its ‘Courage’ campaign.

“We believe the ‘Courage’ campaign is something good for children in Seychelles and when we were approached by NCC for support, we did not hesitate,” said Charlie Ng, the President of Rotary Club of Victoria.

It was in the presence of several members of Rotary Club of Victoria that Mr Ng presented the cheque to the head of the psychology section of NCC, Gerard Lim Sam, in a short ceremony held at the President’s Village at Port Glaud.

On behalf of NCC, Mr Lim Sam thanked Rotary for its kind gesture while encouraging other groups and organisations to support the work being done by NCC.

“We are working with children and their parents freely and we hope that through such support we can increase the services we are offering,” said Mr Lim Sam.

The donation, according to the training coordinator of NCC Fatma Bibi, will be used to reproduce several of the tool kits used to promote the ‘Courage’ campaign.

The campaign, launched earlier this year, uses picture-based materials that children from a young age can relate to.

“With over 25 trained users from various youth and children oriented programmes, there is a need to increase our campaign tools so that more children can benefit from the campaign,” stated Ms Bibi.

Currently, NCC has only three tool kits which include colourful maps and cards which have been extensively used in schools and community-based organisations.

The children from the President’s Village was the latest group to benefit from the campaign, which aims to improve the capacity of children to identify useful groups that could provide help and support to them in their communities.

The ‘Courage’ campaign is also a useful tool to teach children about their rights and responsibilities.

According to Ms Bibi, with their expertise in child protection issues, NCC can facilitate workshops using Courage materials, although the trainers can also opt to conduct their own sessions using their own tool kits.
