Police investigate murder incident on Praslin |17 October 2017

 

The death of 46-year-old Derrick Gill which occurred late Sunday night on Praslin is now being treated as a murder case by the Criminal Investigation Division.

The victim who had suffered numerous injuries was brought to the Baie Ste Anne hospital at around 10.20pm and was certified dead by the doctor shortly after.

According to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) commanding officer chief superintendent François Freminot, when the victim arrived at the hospital, the police officers had already arrived at the hospital after being alerted about an incident and there is an ongoing investigation in relation to Mr Gill’s death.

“There is a scene at the STC warehouse at Grand Anse currently being processed by investigative and technical officers,” he said.

Mr Gill, who is an owner of a security agency on Praslin, was brought to the hospital by a colleague.

He said police response was very quick when Baie Ste Anne police station was alerted.

“The person who accompanied the victim to the hospital assisted the police officers to proceed to the crime scene to secure the scene,” he said.

An autopsy will be done today to determine the cause of his death and extent of his injuries.

He said it is too early in the investigation to give out concrete details.

Meanwhile, a young man aged 19 years old from Marie-Jeanne Estate has been arrested in connection with Mr Gill’s death.

He was taken in police custody during the early hours of Monday and he has been put on remand for a further fourteen days following his appearance in court yesterday afternoon.

 

Swedish woman dies on Silhouette

 

A Swedish woman lost her life on Silhouette on October 12. The woman who was on holiday with her husband was supposed to leave the country on October 19.
According to the CID commanding officer chief superintendent François Freminot, she started facing medical complication while on a trail with her husband.

“When the doctor proceeded to the scene to provide aid it was too late as she had already passed away. The body has been brought to Mahé for post mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” he said.
