Football - Third division clubs begin quest for knockout title |20 October 2017

With Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers already crowned league champions and guaranteed of promotion to the second division next year, teams in the third division have now turned their attention to the knockout competition which begins as from next Monday.

Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers will be aiming to add another trophy to their collection and after the groups were drawn, the prospect that they could face rivals Plaisance in the final, could make things more interesting.

League champions Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers have actually been drawn in group B where they will face off against Mont Buxton, MBU Veterans, Mont Fleuri and a tough test against the Under 17 selection.  The winners and runners-up of this group will then go on to face the top two finishers of group A, which comprises five teams as well. They are Anse Royale, Seypec, Beau Vallon, Judiciary and favourites Plaisance.

As per usual, the winners of group A will face the runners-up of group B and the group B winners will battle the runners-up of group A.

“With all division three sides no longer competing in any of the other competitions after their league ended, we decided that it would be fitting for them to have a competition in order to keep them busy until the season ends in December,” said Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) chief executive Georges Bibi.

He added that the tournament will also give the teams a second chance to try and finish the season with a trophy.

The tournament will begin on Monday October 23 when Seypec will meet Judiciary in a group A encounter, while the final is scheduled to take place on November 25. All matches will take place at Stad Popiler.
