Basketball - Mont Fleuri claim league title |21 October 2017

The local basketball season is coming up its completion and already we know two league champions, with Bel Ombre Marlins taking the men’s division two title a while back and last weekend, Mont Fleuri proved that they are the best women’s team at the moment as they claimed the league title.

In recent years, Mont Fleuri had been playing second fiddle to HotShots, Anse Etoile Stars and B Challenge, but this year, all that changed as Tony Juliette’s side have now wrestled away the league title from rivals B Challenge.

The league triumph came after they grabbed a 122-47 win over RA Sonics, meaning they now cannot be caught by the chasing pack.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with the details of the league table as despite our efforts for the whole week, the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) has yet to provide us with an updated table.

This is Mont Fleuri’s first league win since the mid-1990s, dethroning B Challenge who had won the 2015 and 2016 titles.

Meanwhile, last weekend also saw Drifters win by walkover against MBU Rockers, while in the men’s division two AB Boys defeated Mont Fleuri Ballerz 64-54.

Basketball action will continue at Palais des Sports and on Praslin this weekend.

Today, Praslin Warriors will take on Mont Fleuri Dawgz on Praslin. Tomorrow at the Palais des Sports, outgoing champs B Challenge will take on HotShots at 2pm, while AB Boys will face MBU Boys in a men’s division two match at 3.30pm. Finally, in a division one contest, PLS Hawks will meet reigning champions Beau Vallon Heat.
