Al-Salam Bank donates R0.5m to Children’s Fund |15 November 2017

The chairperson of the Al-Salam Bank Bahrain, Her Highness Shaika Hessa Bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, has donated R500,000 to the Children’s Fund.

She handed over the donation yesterday morning during a courtesy visit to President Danny Faure at State House.

The aim of her call was to extend the services of the new Al-Salam Bank branch operating in the Seychelles to the state.

“It represents a strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Seychelles and we hope this partnership develops further for us to finance some projects such as housing projects or whatever sector the President feels need economic development,” H  H Al Khalifa stated during her interview with the press.

Speaking in quasi-fluent Creole, Her Highness also revealed that the bank is waiting for the President’s office to gather all the necessary documents for the housing projects and when they do so the bank will be prepared to give out the loans.

Located near Nouvobanq on Francis Rachel Street, Al-Salam Bank Seychelles has already begun its operations in the country and is staffed with 18 employees, the majority of which are Seychellois.

According to Her Highness, Al-Salam is a commercial bank which offers all the services typical of a commercial bank but is also one which is at the “forefront of technology”.

Seychelles is the first African country in which the bank has decided to open a branch.

“The exchange between our bank and the Republic of Seychelles is very important because we are an Arab bank that has decided to invest in the Seychelles. Hence we need support from the government,” she said.

When asked to reveal the mystery behind how she is able to speak Creole so well, Her Highness said that she grew up in a household with employed Seychellois workers and have been visiting the country for holidays since 1979 or thereabouts.

Her visit at State House concluded with a courtesy call on Vice-President Vincent Meriton.
