‘Yogathon Seychelles’ on November 25 |18 November 2017

Since the inception of Yoga Day in 2015, Seychelles has been an avid participant in this age old Indian practice.

Drawing from the positive turnout to mass yoga sessions in recent years, the Yoga Association and Sports For All Unit of the National Sports Council are introducing Seychelles’ first ‘yogathon’ to promote healthier living through the practice of yoga.

The rendez-vous for the aptly named ‘Yogathon Seychelles’ is Saturday November 25 at the Omnisports Gym, Roche Caïman from 9.30am to 11am.

This unique event will challenge those taking part to complete 108 rounds (54 sets) of Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations as it is commonly known. If you have attended a yoga class, chances are sun salutations was part of the routine.

Sun salutations consist of 12 movements which are woven together in a nice, flowing sequence, with each movement synchronising with the appropriate breathing pattern. The rhythmic postures awaken and massage the whole body, focus the mind and enliven the breath. This practice also has positive effects on one’s health.

While 108 sun salutations may seem intimidating, it is far from impossible. ‘Yogathon Seychelles’ offers the perfect opportunity to experience the energy created when people gather with a common purpose.

All are invited to take part in the first ‘Yogathon Seychelles’. Dress comfortably, preferably in yoga or exercise clothes, and turn up at the Omnisports Gym with mat, a small towel and water bottle in hands. The event is absolutely free, so come prepared to move, stretch, strengthen and simply let go.
